The Los Angeles Dodgers have opted for a unique way to commemorate Shohei Ohtani‘s memorable first season with the organization — selling dirt from Dodger Stadium.
Fans can buy two different types of game-used dirt, one from Opening Day and another for when Ohtani passed Hideki Matsui for the most home runs by a Japanese player on April 21. The opening day dirt costs $99, while the Ohtani-specific dirt is $149.
The Dodgers began selling 50 units of each sample of dirt at the beginning of their homestand on Sept. 20. As of Tuesday night, only one unit remained from when Ohtani passed Matsui, while a handful were left from Opening Day.

In years past, Major League Baseball has sold game dirt on its website. Game-used dirt jars from the Dodgers 2020 postseason run are still available for purchase, including from the series-clinching Game 6.
Ohtani is nearing the conclusion of a historic regular season where he became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season.
