“They Owe Us An Apology”: NASCAR VP’s Shocking Confession on Goodyear’s Bristol Disaster Leaves Fans Agitated

Many fans are saying that the Bristol night race was boring. This is mainly because of Kyle Larson’s one-sided dominance on the track. Larson led the race for 462 laps out of 500 and he also managed to win all the stages of the race.

NASCAR officials believe that the tires that Goodyear was working on did not do what they needed from it. For some unknown reason, the tires did not wear off as expected, which meant that there were fewer pit stops and fighting for the lead.

Kyle Larson took advantage of the situation and managed to complete the race with just 3 pit stops. The crew did a great job at making sure those stops were as efficient as possible so Larson could get back on track and race harder.

All in all, the fans were not excited to see one driver pull away from the rest of the grid and win. The race missed out on the NASCAR style of action as there were minimal wrecks on the track. Using this to his advantage, Kyle Larson managed to pull off a victory, leaving fans disappointed.

Looking at the post-race reaction from fans, NASCAR realized that the race was not as exciting for the viewers. This is why the VP of Competition, Elton Sawyer, came on the radio to say, “We’re baffled” when it came to understanding why the tires did not wear as expected at Bristol.

Sawyer added, “We were disappointed as a company for our fans,” to let the fans know that NASCAR is aware of how the race turned out. This was highlighted on Reddit, where fans took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the race.

What fans had to say about the Bristol race

One fan saw what Sawyer said, and in response to that, they mentioned, “I’m not surprised. They had no idea why the tires were wearing to begin with. Not to mention conditions weren’t going to be similar at all.” NASCAR ran some tests using these tires at Bristol earlier this year; however, the conditions of the track are different considering the fact that the weather conditions are different, to begin with.

This fan has kept up with what the track owners have done that led to this change. They stated, “It was the resin they put down on the track in the spring. Remember the marbles during the spring race? The track didn’t take rubber and was shredding the rubber off the tires until they corded. Without the resin, they lay rubber down and pick it back up, allowing them to run on the same set of tires indefinitely with minimal falloff.” According to the fan, it was the resin that was the main reason that the tires did not wear off.

In response to the above comment, this fan said, “I completely forgot they put resin down. Why on earth did NASCAR think they would get the same results without the same prep?” They asked the question that many have been thinking of. With resin on the track, the conditions change drastically compared to last time, where the friction between the track and tires led to graining.

This fan was annoyed with the outcome of the race and believes that NASCAR owes the fans an apology. Without much action happening on the track, they felt like it was not the kind of weekend they wanted. It was also brought to notice that the Bristol race had diminished ratings compared to the race earlier in spring. The comment read, “I feel like they owe us all an apology for what we had to sit through Saturday… It was that damn bad. it was bad enough that the approval rating dropped almost 60% from the spring.”

Looking at how the NASCAR officials reacted to the outcome of the race, this fan said, “I love how the sanctioning body is always the only one surprised by these things happening.” It was NASCAR’s decision to go with this compound and from the way the race played it, it was the main factor that led to a race where overtakes were rare and difficult to pull off.
