NASCAR fans gather at Bristol Motor Speedway for Bass Pro Shops Night Race

Thousands of people gathered at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday – and they were ready for the Bass Pro Shops Night Race.

NASCAR fan Richie Grantham traveled six and a half hours from Columbus, Georgia for his 4th trip to Bristol.

Just a legendary track, that’s the biggest thing about it,” said Grantham.

The race weekend was filled with vendors.

Souvenir vendor Bobby Wagner had been selling souvenirs at Bristol Motor Speedway races for 35 years.

We enjoy coming, lots of history. I mean I live in Kannapolis, North Carolina, but when we come to Bristol, it’s like home away from home. Just a great place to be,” said Wagner.

Wagner told News 5 that his company – Carolina Logos Incorporated – tries to create new designs for every race.

This is one of the designs we are selling this weekend, it relates to what’s going on. We just think it’s probably our best seller, and a good shirt, hopefully we sell out this weekend,” Wagner said.

The race has also become a sentimental event for some loyal fans in attendance.

Mark and Keith Tapscott enjoy visiting Bristol to catch all the racing action.

So this trip started when I was ten years old. We’ve had this bucket list trip to come to Bristol and about three years ago, we made it come to life when I was 31. So, 21 years of planning and we finally got it done. I mean it’s Bristol baby, you can’t beat it. You gotta come her and check out the live crowd, the fumes, it’s all worth it,” said NASCAR fan, Keith Tapscott.

It’s good to spend time together. We camp and it’s good to spend time with my son, as he gets older, said Keith’s father, Mark Tapscott.
