Jets’ head coach Scott Arniel told reporters that Heinola would be re-evaluated in a week’s time but also said: “This isn’t good.”

Drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft, Heinola has dealt with his fair share of injuries since he began his pro career. Having played in 41 regular season games with the Manitoba Moose last year, he scored 10 goals and added 17 assists for 27 points.

Over parts of five seasons in the AHL, Heinola has collected 102 points in 152 games. He has also seen 35 career NHL regular season games and put up 11 points.

With Heinola suffering this infection, it throws a wrench in what looked like a solid opportunity for the young defenseman to earn a spot with the Jets out of camp.
