College football recruiting: Latest commitment updates for 5-star recruits in 2025 class

by admin

It may seem hard to believe we’re just a few months away from the first day of the Early Signing Period. As expected, most of the nation’s top players have already committed.

Classes have been formed, and while flips and decommitments can always happen, we have a good idea of where the best players in 2025 are likely headed.

According to 247Sports’ ranking, there are 32 five-star players this cycle.

Of those 32, 28 are already committed, with 15 different schools comprising that list.

Here’s a look at where the five-star recruits in the 2025 class are committed:

Alabama

No Nick Saban, no problem. Kalen DeBoer’s first class with the Crimson Tide already looks like it’ll be memorable, as Alabama has four five-star pledges.

Three of Alabama’s five-star pledges are on the offensive side of the ball. Duncanville (Texas) quarterback Keelon Russell headlines the group. Russell ranks as the No. 10 player in the country and No. 3 quarterback.

He also has a solid weapon to work within the class in Ackerman (Miss.) Choctaw County receiver Caleb Cunningham will be protected up front by Denton (Texas) Ryan offensive tackle Ty Haywood. Cunningham ranks No. 22 nationally, and Haywood is No. 18.

Mission Viejo (Calif.) cornerback Dijon Lee is the lone defensive five-star so far. He ranks No. 31 nationally and is the No. 4 cornerback in the class.

Auburn

The Tigers stayed in-state to land their two five-star pledges. They also are forming a formidable front in those two commitments.

Auburn’s class is headlined by Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson EDGE Jared Smith. Smith is the No. 19 player in the class and committed to the Tigers in early August ahead of his senior season.

Hugh Freeze really began building this class around Opelika (Ala.) defensive lineman Malik Autry. Autry, the No. 29 player this cycle, committed to the Tigers in February.

Florida State

Florida State’s product on the field has been abysmal this season. The Seminoles have also seen their 2025 recruiting class take a hit.

While a few former pledges have either flipped elsewhere or decommitted in the last month, the one constant has been Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines offensive tackle Solomon Thomas.

Thomas, the No. 24 player in the class, has been committed for a long time to the Seminoles, announcing his decision last December.

Georgia

Georgia’s future remains bright, with the No. 5 class in the cycle. A trio of five-star pledges headlines that group.

Two of those pledges are on the defensive side of the ball in a pair of talented in-state recruits. Linebacker Zayden Walker committed to the Bulldogs on June 5, and EDGE Isaiah Gibson committed a few weeks later. Walker ranks as the No. 2 linebacker in the class, and Gibson is the No. 1 edge-rusher.

The Bulldogs aren’t just loading up on the defensive side of the ball. On April 8, they landed the No. 1 tight end in the class and another in-state prospect, Elyiss Williams. He ranks No. 21 nationally.

Georgia isn’t the only school in the Peach State that has landed elite five-star talent.

Roswell (Ga.) Fellowship Christian School offensive tackle Josh Petty opted to stay close to home with his commitment to the Yellow Jackets on August 12. With that decision, Petty is Georgia Tech’s highest-ranked commitment and first five-star pledge since Calvin Johnson.

Iowa

Following in the footsteps of his brother and father, Edwardsville (Ill.) EDGE Iose Epenesa committed to the Hawkeyes on August 15.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder is ranked as the No. 16 player in the country and the No. 3 edge-rusher. His older brother A.J. starred at Iowa before being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Kansas State

The No. 2 tight end in the 2025 class resides in Kansas and he’s opted to stay close to home once his high school career comes to an end.

Goodland (Kan.) tight end Linkon Cure announced his commitment to the Wildcats on July 1. According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-6, 220-pounder is Kansas State’s first five-star pledge.

Cure ranks as the No. 26 player in the class.

LSU

The Tigers currently have the No. 3 class this cycle. More importantly, they hold the commitment of the No. 1 player in the class.

Belleville (Mich.) quarterback Bryce Underwood, a multi-time state champion, ranks as the top recruit and quarterback this cycle. He committed to the Tigers on January 6.

Between July 17 and July 20, the Tigers landed commitments from their next two five-star pledges.

Safety DJ Pickett committed to the Tigers on July 17, and Bishop Gorman receiver Derek Meadows announced his decision on July 20. Pickett ranks No. 9 nationally, and Meadows is the 32nd-ranked player.

Ohio State

Of all the teams with multiple five-star commitments so far, no class is more impressive than the one Ohio State put together. The Buckeyes have commitments from No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 players in the class.

This group is headlined by Bellefontaine (Ohio) quarterback Tavien St. Clair. St. Clair ranks as the No. 2 player in the nation behind Underwood.

Ohio State’s cornerback room will benefit even more from the other two commitments. In Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord, the Buckeyes have commitments from the country’s No. 1 and No. 2 cornerbacks.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s class is back in the top-10 and is looking like it could jump more and more before National Signing Day.

That group is headlined by Lewisville (Texas) offensive tackle Michael Fasusi. The 6-foot-5, 295-pounder ranks as the No. 27 overall player in the class and No. 5 offensive tackle.

Oregon

The next great college freshman receiver could be at Eugene next season. Duncanville (Texas) receiver Dakorien Moore chose to head west following his high school career instead of staying home.

Moore ranks No. 5 nationally and is the No. 1 receiver in the class.

Oregon also holds the commitment of the No. 1 safety in the class. Cleveland (Ohio) Shaker Heights safety Trey McNutt committed to the Ducks at the beginning of August.

Tennessee

With Nico Iamaleava under center now and a pair of talented signal-callers committed in their 2025 and 2026 classes, the future of the Vols’ quarterback room is already looking stacked.

They’ll need elite linemen to protect those guys, and they’ve already got one committed this class.

David Sanders Jr., the No. 3 overall player and No. 1 offensive tackle, committed to Tennessee on August 17. He chose the Volunteers over several notable schools, including Alabama.

Texas A&M

The Aggies are far from the class full of five-star pledges a few years ago. They have one so far in this cycle, but it’s a key pledge.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial quarterback Husan Longstreet announced his commitment to the Aggies in April. A dual-threat signal-caller, Longstreet accounted for 31 total touchdowns as a junior.

Texas

The Longhorns‘ highest-ranking pledge in the 2025 class may be a defensive player, but they’re also loading up at receiver.

Galveston (Texas) Ball athlete Jonah Williams stands out as both a safety and linebacker. 247 projects him as a linebacker at the next level and ranks him as the No. 7 player in the class and No. 1 linebacker.

The receiver room for the Longhorns is looking brighter and brighter as well. Texas landed a commitment from Kaliq Lockett, the No. 2 receiver in the class, on August 7. Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin receiver Jaime Ffrench joined the class on August 30.

USC

Top-10 quarterback Julian Lewis has been the jewel in USC’s 2025 class since his commitment last August. Now, Lewis has a future star target as a receiver heading to Southern California as well.

Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon wide receiver Jerome Myles announced his commitment to the Trojans on September 18, choosing USC over Texas A&M and Utah.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound pass-catcher is ranked as the No. 30 player in the 2025 class according to 247Sports. He ranks as the No. 5 wide receiver and No. 1 player out of Utah.

Uncommitted football recruits

Currently, in 247’s rankings, four five-star prospects are uncommitted.

Georgia looks to be the favorite to land a pair coming out of The Peach State in defensive linemen Elijah Griffin and Justus Terry. Griffin ranks as the No. 8 player in the country, and Terry, a former USC pledge, ranks No. 13.

Overland Park (Ks.) Blue Valley Northwest offensive tackle Andrew Babalola is the highest-ranking uncommitted offensive player in the class. He ranks No. 15 nationally, with schools like Auburn, Michigan, and Stanford looking like the favorites in his recruitment.

Texas is the favorite to land in-state athlete Michael Terry III. Nebraska and Oregon are also coveting the No. 20 player out of San Antonio.
