Faced with another must-win contest, the Alabama Crimson Tide will play one of the most talented teams on their 2024 schedule Saturday night when the program travels to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to face their long-time SEC rivals, the LSU Tigers.
A familiar opponent for the Crimson Tide, LSU has historically been one of Alabama’s toughest games in almost every season during the Nick Saban era, and is expected to be the same with Kalen DeBoer now in charge in Tuscaloosa.
Taking a look at this year’s version of LSU however, the Tigers are certainly not lacking for talent under head coach Brian Kelly, as usual, and have some of the nation’s top players at their respective positions.
Let’s take a look at five LSU Tigers to know ahead of their Week 11 matchup against Alabama in Baton Rouge:
Garrett Nussmeier, Quarterback
2024 Stats: 62.5 CMP%, 2,627 passing yards, 20:9 TD:INT ratio, 13 rushes, 13 yards, 3 TD
LSU’s offense is led by one of the SEC’s top performing quarterbacks so far this season in Garrett Nussmeier, who is in his first season as the Tigers starter, and saw limited action a year ago on the road at Alabama where he completed 5-of-10 passes for 53 yards. The Tigers signal caller is also currently leading the SEC in both passing attempts and completions, but has however struggled with turnovers as well, throwing nine interceptions.
Kyren Lacy, Wide Receiver
2024 Stats: 41 receptions, 618 yards, 6 TD
The Tigers have one of the SEC’s more dynamic wide receivers in Kyren Lacy, who has posted a combined three receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown against Alabama the last two seasons. Lacy, an experienced wide receiver, has been LSU’s top pass catcher so far this season by hauling in 41 receptions for 618 yards and six touchdowns, while also averaging 15.1 yards per catch.
Whit Weeks, Linebacker
2024 Stats: 75 tackles, 7 TFL, 2.5 sacks, 1 INT, 2 PD, 1 FF
Whit Weeks is by far LSU’s top tackler this season, having a combined 75 through eight games to rank among the SEC’s leaders. The sophomore also has four games so far this season of double-digit total tackles, and is likely LSU’s biggest name to know on defense by far.
Will Campbell, Offensive Tackle
2024 Stats: N/A
One of LSU’s top players comes along the offensive line in Will Campbell, who is the Tigers starting left tackle. Campbell is one of the top offensive lineman in college football, and is undoubtedly the name to know along LSU’s front entering Saturday.
Bradyn Swinson, Defensive End
2024 Stats: 34 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 8 sacks, 3 PD, 2 FF
Lastly, others such as Mason Taylor and Aaron Anderson could be options here, but it’s hard to not include Bradyn Swinson based on the year he is having for the LSU defense. Swinson has been LSU’s most productive pass rusher so far this season, ranking No. 3 in the SEC with eight sacks, and had three tackles vs. Alabama a year ago.
