20th anniversary of Tennessee’s victory against Alabama in 2004

No. 10 Tennessee (5-1, 1-1 SEC) will host No. 7 Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC) Saturday in Week 8 at Neyland Stadium (3:30 p.m. EDT, ABC).

Each week, Vols Wire looks back at a memorable Tennessee game against its upcoming opponent. Vols Wire revisits Tennessee’s, 17-13, win versus Alabama on Oct. 23, 2004 at Neyland Stadium.

Tennessee scored first after a defensive touchdown. Parys Haralson returned a Crimson Tide fumble 18 yards. James Wilhoit converted an extra point with 14 minutes, 15 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Alabama led, 10-7, in the second quarter after Tim Castille scored a rushing touchdown and a 34-yard field goal by Brian Bostick.

Tennessee quarterback Erik Ainge completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jayson Swain before halftime to give the Vols a, 14-10, lead.

Wilhoit converted a 40-yard field goal in the third quarter for Tennessee and Bostick kicked a 47-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Alabama.

Ainge completed 10-of-22 passing attempts for 132 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Gerald Riggs Jr. totaled 39 rushing yards on 19 attempts for the Vols, while Swain recorded five receptions for 80 yards and one touchdown.

Alabama quarterback Spencer Pennington completed 14-of-28 passing attempts for 113 yards and one interception.
